Our Restaurant
The Fish Basket is the creation of Peter and Elaine Shanahan.
Elaine is a chef and baker with extensive experience in the hospitality industry alongside running and producing bespoke cakes for her own catering business, Elaine also bakes and creates the most Devine selection of home-baked produce available for the Fish Basket patrons to enjoy.
Peter has a career history in the fisheries industry specialising in supplying a range business with fresh fish and locally produced West Cork Produce throughout West Cork.
When Peter and Elaine brought their skills and knowledge together over 5 years ago they started from a Food Truck, which amazed its patrons with the quality, flavour and freshness of the food. Not to mention the value!
Since then they have expanded and now they are the proud owners of the acclaimed The Fish Basket Restaurant, Long Strand Beach, Owenahincha.
The vision of this dynamic duo was to provide superior quality, locally sourced fresh food to families and individuals who can enjoy the real taste of West Cork with the most stunning views of the Wild Atlantic Way in their rustic and unique restaurant.
Critics have hailed The Fish Basket “ The Best Kept Secret in Cork !” With a service rating of 11/10. Its a genuine pleasure to visit.

Local artist Bert Dufour creates the lighthouses that decorate The Fish Basket.
Made from materials found on and around the local beaches. These delightful characteristic pieces are unique and mastered with Berts own individual style.
Renowned aerial photographer and artist Denis Horgan has several statement pieces on display at The Fish Basket. Denis has a captivating an unrivalled genius for portraying beautiful maritime scenes some of which now grace the walls of The Fish Basket and delight the patrons who visit the restaurant with both their reality and beauty.
The Vintage Room in Schull has provided The Fish Basket with vintage, intriguing and distinctive pieces from the past which add and nurture the rustic warmth of the restaurant.
Finest Media also display their beautiful photographic images on the walls of The Fish Basket, adding to the restaurants impressive display of local artistic talent.
