Our Delicious story
The Fish Basket is the creation of Peter and Elaine Shanahan.
We are serving fresh fish & chips locally sourced from West Cork.
Cooking is an art and patience a virtue. Careful shopping, fresh ingredients and an unhurried approach are nearly all you need.
There is one more thing - love. Love for food and love for those you invite to your table.
With a combination of these things, you can be an artist.

August 21, 2019 Pleased to visit The Fish Basket in these premises. A step up from a car park by the N71. Have been looking forward to coming here on our holiday in Ireland. The fish tacos were excellent. Friendly service.

April 13, 2019- Fabulous food served by the sea on the beautiful Long Strand. Delicious fresh fish ! The restaurant is in a rustic wooden hut at the entrance to the beach, it’s well worth a visit you won’t be disappointed. Susan Ralph

May 7, 2018 This is a hidden gem. On our way to Skibbereen we made a special detour to here. Our 1st visit and we were not disappointed. On the strand with fab views we were able to walk off our dinner. The decor is quirky and fun. At peak times you may have to wait for table but so worth it. All the staff were very pleasant and friendly. We had 1 of the sharing platter the nicest and freshest fish I think I've ever tasted. very reasonably priced. Home made chips were yum. will definitely be going here again. Sharon Naughton

July 23, 2017 - Not what we were expecting, so much more. Beautiful crispy batter on perfectly cooked fish, mussels to die for and if you didn't want fish and chips, other great choices available. We all agreed it was the best seafood around. Really friendly and helpful people and we were also able to sit outside with our dog, who enjoyed it as well. Can't wait to go again. Jean Healy

June 11, 2019 We were directed to The Fish Basket a couple of years ago when you were in the van and we were very impressed with the scampi and chips! Rediscovered you yesterday at Long Strand and it was as impressive. Portions were very generous and the food was gorgeous. Congratulations on the new location and best wishes for 2019. January 2, 2019 On Sunday 16th July, a group of ~35 of us rocked up, impromptu, to the Fish Basket. We were several nationalities visiting from the International Space University. The staff responded wonderfully, and with the best attitude. They took our orders patiently, as some of us had little English. Food was delivered efficiently and was beautifully fresh, crispy batter on the fish and perfectly cooked chips, followed by a slice of divine chocolate cake. The location was perfect, beautiful view over rosscarbery, bathroom facilities, and even coffee! For some it was their first experience of fish and chips, others were fish and chip veterans, but everyone agreed the food was excellent! Thanks to everyone at the fish basket for their amazing hospitality and for making us all feel so welcome, oh and the full tummies! ��
